Broun Joins Sen Ted Cruz in Pledge to Fight Debt

Washington, DC- Yesterday, Georgia Republican U.S. Senate candidate, Congressman Paul Broun, M.D., signed the Reject the Debt Pledge. The pledge is sponsored by the Coalition to Reduce Spending and works to ensure that Members of Congress commit to reducing federal spending. No other Georgia Republican candidate for Senator has signed the pledge.

The pledge represents exactly what I have been doing since I came to Congress in 2007 -- working to reduce spending, eliminate debt, and balance the budget, said Rep. Broun. "Therefore, I am most pleased to add my signature to that of Senator Ted Cruz from Texas. Senator Cruz is serious about fighting out-of-control spending and astronomical debt. With the confidence of the people of Georgia, I look forward to being in the Senate with Ted Cruz and working with him and other genuine conservatives to restore fiscal sanity in Washington.

The Reject the Debt Pledge for candidates states: "I pledge to the citizens of my state and to the American people that, except when related to a congressional authorization of force, I will: ONE, consider all spending open for reduction and vote only for budgets that present a path to balance; and TWO, vote against any appropriations bill that increases total spending and against the authorization or funding of new programs without offsetting cuts in other programs."
